Stem Challenge: "Who can build the tallest Balloons Tower?"
"STEM challenges are a great way to develop higher level thinking skills, problem-solving, creativity, working collaboratively, and even the growth mindset while integrating multiple subject areas -- not just science, technology, engineering, and math! This board is a collection of awesome STEM challenge resources."In Service Day means lots of fun all day!Tower challenges are great go-to stem activities that promote problem solving, teamwork, and communication.
Children love balloons! The children were divided into two groups and each group had a leader who gave instruction and the other participants followed them.
The engineering mission was to build the tallest, freestanding tower using a bag of balloons and masking tape. Children worked together to blow up the balloons and found a way to hold them together for a tower. Children were reminded the importance of a sturdy base and time management. The children were given 30 minutes to keep them focused on building. At the end, walked around and measured the different heights while pointing out the differences in structures.
Relay Races:
Shoes Hunting:
The children made
two teams and each participant took off their shoes and put them in a pile. The
teams lined up single file and started the relay challenge on the signal from
the leader. Each player picked different player from their team, ran to the
pile of shoes, found their shoe and headed back to the line. The team to have
all of their payers with their shoes back on first won.
