In Service Day

In Service Day Fun!

Stem Challenge: "Who can build the tallest Balloons Tower?"

"STEM challenges are a great way to develop higher level thinking skills, problem-solving, creativity, working collaboratively, and even the growth mindset while integrating multiple subject areas -- not just science, technology, engineering, and math! This board is a collection of awesome STEM challenge resources."

In Service Day means lots of fun all day!Tower challenges are great go-to stem activities that promote problem solving, teamwork, and communication.

Children love balloons! The children were divided into two groups and each group had a leader who gave instruction and the other participants followed them.

The engineering mission was to build the tallest, freestanding tower using a bag of balloons and masking tape. Children worked together to blow up the balloons and found a way to hold them together for a tower. Children were reminded the importance of a sturdy base and time management. The children were given 30 minutes to keep them focused on building. At the end, walked around and measured the different heights while pointing out the differences in structures.

Relay Races:

Shoes Hunting:

The children made two teams and each participant took off their shoes and put them in a pile. The teams lined up single file and started the relay challenge on the signal from the leader. Each player picked different player from their team, ran to the pile of shoes, found their shoe and headed back to the line. The team to have all of their payers with their shoes back on first won.

Row the Boat:

The children made two teams and each participant held the feet of the other participant's feet who was behind them, and rowed the boat. It was so much fun! but was a little bit challenge to pull the feet of the person sitting behind you.

Exploring and Discovering Basic Electricity Concepts

Before School Program:

The power had failed one day for few minutes, and it was dark in the room. The children asked for the flashlight and started to talk about what would happen if we didn't have electricity all day. I asked them what we could do, then they talked about how the electricity works and also asked how it is produced.

We have a discovery kit for electricity, so I put all the materials on the table for the children to use to  build a circuit that could create the highest light possible.

First the children read a booklet to find out how to connect the parts and build the circuit.

They examined all the components of the kit and identified them

They built the circuit and tested it

But it didn't work so it was time to find the problem and solve it!

They worked together, found the problem and solved it and...It worked!😊😊

The purpose of the activity was to introduce simple circuits and examine how batteries, when connected differently, provide a different voltage output.

2019 Family BBQ

The Family BBQ was a huge hit again this year. Everybody was dancing, eating hot dogs, and all the children enjoyed jumping in the bouncy castle.
